Is it Me?
First, sorry for not posting much - life intervenes, and fewer cabs being taken.Second - is it not posting so much that has offended the cab community to such an extent that 3 out of the last 3 cabs I've ridden have been trash dumps. Falling apart, horribly maintained, and full of who knows what all over the front seats & back floors. I almost asked one driver to redirect and drive me to an ER for a tetanus shot!
I know we tend to get a bit relaxed about life in the summer, but guys, really, if you don't want people to open the door, scream, and then slam it in disgust. Or if you harbor any hopes of getting through inspection without bribing someone, clean up the cabs!

If the cab is filthy, send it on its way and get the next one. This is the slow season, so there should be another one along in minutes, if not seconds.
When I hail a cab in this weather, if the windows are open when he pulls over, I send him on his way. If he is yakking on a telephone, I ask him if he is going to hang up before I get in. If he gives me the slightest scowl or some lip, I send him on his way.
If I do not see a hack licence when I get in, I ask to see it. If he gives me any lip, I get out.
As a driver and a dispatcher, I will not give my money to an illegal who is out here taking away my customers and ruining my reputation by his mistreatment of the public.
Remember, too, that an unlicenced driver is an uninsured driver. If he gets into an at-fault collision and you are injured, there is NO coverage.
Sunday afternoon is Illegal Day. The illegals know that the hack inspectors do not work Sunday afternoon, so there are three times the number of illegals out there. Also, the Prince George's and Alexandria Airport Bandit drivers work the City with impunity.
The City has known for years about the large number of unlicenced drivers; for years it has refused to do anything about them, despite the Public Hazard that these effectively uninsured motorists create.
When suburban cabs do trips that do not begin or end in their jurisdiction, they are committing illegal acts, and are also effectively uninsured. Prince George's cabs are not allowed to pick up in the City under any circunstances, even if the customer is returning to PG County. Prince George's County is not a signatory to the Interstate Compact and Reciprocal Agreement of 1947.
As for inspection bribery, even if your car is clean and mechanically sound, you can not pass without a bribe. The inspectors will nitpick you to death about a few minor scratches and a speck of dust here or there. They will tell you that your brakes are no good, even though the mechanic changd them two days before inspection. They will tell you that the tyres that you bought brand new last week are bald and that you failed emissions even though three other computers tell you that you are well within tolerances.
The inspectors hate cab drivers and are racist, as well.

Lot of passengers smell DCCR, and that smell doesn't go away quick, and when riders like you get in the cab right after the stinky passenger, of course you blame it on the driver. That doesn't mean all cabbies smell like roses but the riding public have to be responsible as well!
By the way did you find a job yet? I saw a well dressed clean cut white woman at one of the shelters a few month ago and I thought, "I hope that's not that DC Cab Rider Chick!"
Excellent service and competitive rates!

Share a cab to and from the airport. I know getting to Dulles and BWI gets expensive.
