New Poll

Moving on from the strike to meters - and who wants them, or doesn't want them. Is it as cut and dried as riders yes, drivers no? Who knows. You tell me.

Considering that 99.99% of the world's cabs have meters, one has to wonder just why there's even a debate on this matter.

Probably because change can be scary.

DC cab rider

I do not think the situation is as cut and dry as the riders wanting meters and the cabbies not wanting the meters. I have talked to a lot of Cabbies that I know and they want to have the meters but they do not want the meters to be an instrument used to cut their income by as much as 40-50%, with the intention of driving them (the independent Cab owners) out to let big companies in who will eventually have the fares increased by lobbying the DC government.

Of all the Cabbies that I have talked to not one says no to the meter system that will not push them to cut their income. Infact they welcome the meters for the accountability.
