Cab Rides Better in the Morning

Almost everytime I get into a cab between 8 - 10 am the cabbie is listening to NPM. Or Democracy Now. It always makes the ride interesting and informative. Good morning radio choices guys.

Of course almost everytime I'm in a cab in the afternoon, he's listening to some right-wing bizarro call in show. Fortunately, I almost never take cabs in the afternoon.

The no change bit

I've had cabbies ask me when I get in if I have exact change. If they don't have change, they should do that. Let you know up front.

Not so with Empire cab #102. Took me all the way home. I gave him $15 for a $11 ride and asked for two bucks back. "I don't have change." ... and I didn't have ones. So the guy got $15 for the trip. Is there an alternative to just forking over more money then you wanted to?

A fascinating driver tonight

An older man who I got into a great conversation with. He was in Army in Germany in the 50s. He talked about being in a smaller sized German town as a Black, being a local "curiousity" as he put it. He had many stories to tell of a fascinating life. These are the kinds of drivers I love to get - to learn of interesting lives and experiences. It's a great way to spend the time getting home.
